Although most other posts on here recommend using version 8.10 with Windows XP for the Lucent WinModem LT, I downloaded the generic driver from Agere Systems, Inc. version 8.22 and it worked perfectly. This is the modem built into the Dell Inspiron 7500. If you have upgraded your OS to XP on this laptop (or any other machine using the Lucent WinModem LT), you must use this driver. The driver that XP loads by default is OLD and causes a lose of or poor detection of dial-tone. You will get a message stating that the driver is 'un-signed' for XP, but take my word for it - it works successfully.
